Create a Certificate

Create a Certificate

OVERVIEW

The Certificate activity allows you to create PDF certificates for learners in a course. This feature allows for official and targeted recognition for completing courses.

Use Case Example:

Imagine the course you have implemented is on workplace safety. You as the training manager can create a certificate upon successful completion of the course.

For example: You can include the learner's name, course details, and even a background image representing workplace safety.

By personalizing the certificate and adding custom elements, you can ensure that users receive a professional and visually appealing certificate. Moreover, you can set conditions for certificate access, such as requiring learners to achieve a specific grade.

CREATE A CERTIFICATE
Step 1: In the relevant course, click on "Edit course material."

Step 2: Scroll down to the bottom of your course and click on "Add modules" to add a module that will indicate the end of the course and contain the course certificate.

Step 3: After giving your final module an appropriate name, click on "Add course content."

Step 4: Click on the "Custom certificate" activity.

Step 5: Give your certificate (1) a name and (2) optionally define your preferred certificate delivery and display options, restrictions, and tags (you can always edit these later).

Once you're happy, click on "Save and display."

CUSTOMIZE YOUR CERTIFICATE

Step 1: Click on the gear icon (  ), followed by "Edit certificate."

Step 2: Adjust your (1) certificate settings and start creating your custom certificate by (2) adding custom elements.

Make sure to save changes after each element is added.
Note: To prevent that your background image covers all other elements on your certificate, be sure to add it as your first custom element.

You can also load and customize templates of previously created certificates.

Step 3: You can reposition the contents on your certificate manually.

All elements with a (+) icon can be repositioned on the certificate as seen below.

Once you're happy, click on "Save and continue" and once you are satisfied with the certificate you can select "save and close".

Note: You can reposition the elements in a sample certificate and templates that has been set up previously.

SET YOUR CERTIFICATE CONDITIONS

Step 1: After you've created and customized your certificate, you can set restrictions to limit user access - this is how you can control who will be awarded the certificate. To do this, navigate back to the final module on your course page, click on "Edit" and then "Edit module."

Step 2: In the "Restrict access" section, you can add any restrictions you require before a learner can access their course certificate.

A popular restriction is requiring learners to achieve greater than a specified grade on their course total.

With this Restrictions, you can also add rules to the certificate. For example, where you choose if a certificate may be printed and downloaded by the user.

To make these changes, you can scroll until you find the "options" menu within the certificate "Edit settings",

Then you can setup which rules apply and which don't,

Ensure that the box is NOT ticked if you want to allow that specific action.

LEARNER VIEW

After you have set your certificate conditions, your learners will only be able to view the certificate activity and download the course certificate once they meet the requirements.
